He moved with his family to Cairo in 1932 and as a senior played halfback for the Syrupmakers. Mr. Rogers married Julia Cooper from Meigs, GA in 1938. He became a part of the Turner Furniture Company family when he moved to Bainbridge in the late 1940's to manage a store. Since retirement, he was still often recognized as Mr. Turner Furniture and continued a strong bond of love and friendship with the Turner family. Growth and progress in Decatur County made him smile and he wore his Chamber of Commerce Ambassador button with pride and energy. He served 12 years on the Bainbridge City Council and always mentioned to newcomers that the YMCA, Memorial Hospital, Bainbridge College, and the Chamber of Commerce were among the blessings of living in Bainbridge. Mr. Rogers was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was active in a variety of administrative positions. He was also a past president of the Bainbridge Rotary and holds the record for having the longest perfect attendance. He lived his life using the 4-way test and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Rogers touched the hearts and minds of so many, young and old, during his life span of almost ninety-six years. He lived each day to the fullest as God's servant whether worshiping or working; praying or promising; fishing or hunting; striving to do the best he could to make each day better for someone else. Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Cooper Rogers. Survivors include his daughter, Anne Fowler and her husband Johnny of Bainbridge, GA; three grandchildren, Dr. Jay Fowler of Oklahoma, Tisha Fowler of Bainbridge, GA and James Alfred Fowler of Oklahoma; and his sister, Alice Acker and her husband Nathan of Elberton, GA.
