Alice H. Wheeler of Cairo, Georgia, died, Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Her services will be Saturday, August 27, 2011, 3:00 p.m., at Eastside Baptist Church in Cairo. The Rev. Dr. Paul Jones will be officiating. Ms. Wheeler's nephews will serve as pallbearers. A private, family, interment will be held following the service in Cairo Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Alice Wilma Harper was born March 11, 1937 in Grady County, Georgia to Earnest Clayton Harper and Mary Maude Zeigler Harper. She was an animal lover, caring for all strays. She loved to care for and watch the blue birds in her yard. Her yard and flowers brought her a lot of pleasure. Alice loved to fish and travel with friends. She enjoyed being part of her group of ladies at Cairo Fitness. Ms. Wheeler was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and Sunday School, the Eastside Keenagers group, and the Eastside Quilters. She retired after 35 years working as a Comptroller in the Accounting Department for the State of Florida. She is survived by her family that brought her such joy, daughters: Jean Hughes and husband, Bill; Tina Wheeler and husband, Stan Inabinet; and Angie Colegrove, all of Tallahassee, Florida; sister: Louette Hopkins and husband, Leroy, of Reno, Georgia; granddaughter: Ashley Setliff Morris and husband, Donnie, of Atlanta, Georgia; great grandson: Hunter Morris of Atlanta, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions are made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, Florida 32308.
