Alma Franklin Black, 94, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016.The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Oak City Cemetery with Bob Henderson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to: Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta GA 30346, Attn: Susan Aldana, VP of Development.Alma Lee Franklin was born November 27, 1921 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia the daughter of Fletcher Thomas Franklin and Annie Loyce Cryder. Alma was a member of First Baptist Church and retired from Decatur County Schools as a Lunchroom Manager."Miss" Alma was quite a character. She loved people and never met a stranger. A story was once told that she talked the horns off of a billy goat. "Miss" Alma was known for her yard work and special skills supervising Fred Sr. She enjoyed everything about the Flint River especially water skiing. She is credited with teaching several folks to water ski. When "Miss" Alma wasn't in the yard or on the river, you could find her in the kitchen cooking. She spent many days cooking for the children in Decatur County and her boys say she could cook some mighty fine cornbread.Survivors include her sons, Fred Black, Jr. and his wife, Jane, and Steve Black and his wife, Marsha, both of Bainbridge; her grandchildren, Steve, Kyle, RaeAnne, Connie, Chris, and Jamie; and her great-grandchildren, Hunter, Aden, Ethan, Kaitlynn, Gage, and James. Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Frasier Franklin, Winston Franklin and Ann Franklin Wilbur; and her great-granchild, Payton.
