July 12, 1935 — April 20, 2016

Mr. Alton Justice Newton, Jr., age 80, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama. Services will be held for Mr. Newton on Sunday, April 24, at 3:00 p.m., in the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home. The Rev. Marty Brock will officiate. Interment will follow in Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. John Mothershead, Will Mothershead, Gary Smith, Darrell King, Zack Brock, and Brannon Brock will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 2:00. Alton Newton was born July 12, 1935, in Tallahassee, Florida, to Alton Justice Newton, Sr. and Annie Strickland Newton. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Brock Newton. They were married 44 years. Alton was a talented millwright. He fabricated grills, gates, and trailers, to name a few things. Mr. Newton loved his family, including his wife's family. He loved people and always lightened their spirits and uplifted them. Alton Newton will be dearly missed by the family he loved so very much. Alton Justice Newton, Jr. is survived by his wife, Phyllis Brock Newton of Donalsonville, Georgia; daughter, Allison Newton Mothershead and husband, John of North Augusta, South Carolina; sister, Eloise Pittman and husband, Ennis of Bainbridge, Georgia; brother, Johnny Newton and wife, Peggy of Bainbridge; and grandchildren, Megan and Will Mothershead of North Augusta. He was preceded in death by parents, Alton Justice Newton, Sr. and Annie Strickland Newton.
