Augusta Slappey Carruth, 92, of Brunswick, GA, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Brunswick First United Methodist Church. The graveside service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, GA. Because Missions was her passion, instead of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to the Vashti School, 1815 E. Clay Street, Thomasville, GA 31792. Augusta Slappey Carruth, age 92, died Tuesday morning, April 29th, at Southeast Regional Hospital. She had resided in the Golden Isles since 1967, with the exception of five years, with her husband, the late Rev. W. Carlton Carruth. Mrs. Carruth's survivors include her three children: Miriam Carruth Hagan and Dr. Daniel Hagan of Macon; Zaidee Carruth of St. Simons Island; and Wade and Claire Carruth of St. Simons Island. The surviving grandchildren are Rev. Scott Hagan of Columbus, Rev. Kirk Hagan of Wrightsville, Ashley Carruth Clark Trousdale of Sarajevo, Bosnia, Spencer Carruth Clark of Smyrna, Wade Carruth, III of Douglasville, and Katherine Carruth, of St. Simons Island. Mrs. Carruth is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Sam and Jack Hagan of Columbus, Tyler and Hannah Trousdale of Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Wesley Hagan of Wrightsville. In addition to her family, Augusta's passions were the United Methodist Church, the organization of United Methodist Women, and the Missions of the church. She served all three of those on the local, district, conference, Southeastern Jurisdiction and national levels of the United Methodist Church.
