Augusta Sanders

December 26, 1935 — June 23, 2010

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery (Tired Creek Road off Hwy 111) in Grady County, Georgia with Rev. Conrad Salter officiating. Augusta Werner Sanders, 74, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at her home in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born December 26, 1935 in Wiesbaden-Biebrich, West Germany, to the late Johanna Christiane Weyrich and Heinrich Michael Lazarus Werner. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Clifton Henry Sanders. A longtime resident of Tallahassee, Augusta was employed by the Leon County School Board as NDA Coordinator prior to starting a family. While a homemaker, her hobbies and volunteer work kept her busy. She took numerous classes at FSU and TCC and also worked part time at TCC during registration. She was on the Leon County Extension Overall Advisory Committee, University of Florida for many years. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, vegetable carving, picture matting, hand tying bows, and many other arts and crafts. Augusta was most passionate about her stained glass and glass etching - as would be witnessed by her extended family of fellow employees and students at Lafayette Arts and Crafts, whom she loved dearly. She was a stained glass instructor at Lafayette from 1991 to 2010. Augusta is survived by her daughter, Valeria A. Sanders, of Tallahassee, sisters Ria, Christa, and many other relatives in Germany. She was preceded in death by one sister, Paula, and 3 brothers, Albert, Ernst, and an infant brother.
