Benny T. Cumbie, 73, of Climax, GA, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at New Home Freewill Baptist Church No. 2 with Rev. Jimmy Hooks and Rev. Conrad Salter officiating. Interment will follow at New Home Freewill Baptist Church No. 2 Cemetery with Craig Foister, Christian Glover, Shad Glover, Jacob Cumbie, Bud Glover and Keith Cumbie serving as active pallbearers.The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Benny Terrell Cumbie was born July 24, 1943 in Decatur County, the son of Allen Cumbie and Geneva Faircloth Cumbie. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Benny married Belinda Kay Boutwell in 1968 and they raised their family in the Climax Community. He retired as a Freewill Baptist Church minister. Rev. Cumbie loved his family and his church. He preached with passion and enjoyed singing gospel music. His favorite pastime was fishing and his second favorite was eating what he caught. When he sat for a minute, he delighted in watching the birds come and go to their bird houses. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Belinda B. Cumbie; his children, Daryl Cumbie, Wesley Cumbie and his wife, Lisa, and Gina Cumbie Hornsby all of Climax, and Lisa Haire of Bainbridge; his sister, Rita Green, of Attapulgus; and his grandchildren, Johnathan, Taylor, Brittany, Meagan, Morgan, Jacob, Emily, Gage, Connor, Macee and Sofia. Rev. Cumbie was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Brandon Hornsby.
