Bernice Boyd

Mrs. Bernice Boutwell Boyd, age 82, passed away early Monday, August 30, 2021, at her home in Decatur County, Georgia. Services for Mrs. Boyd will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 1, at Mt. Gilead Freewill Baptist Church, Spring Creek Road, Brinson, Georgia. The Rev. Lynn Massey will officiate. Interment to follow at Bethany Cemetery. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will greet friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home. Bernice Boutwell was born August 6, 1939, in Grady County, Georgia. Her parents, Judson Boutwell and Littie Sadler Boutwell, have preceded her in death. Bernice attended Mt. Pleasant Elementary School and then West Bainbridge High School. In high school she was an outstanding basketball player. Bernice was tiny but feisty! Bernice married Edwin Claude Boyd, Sr., September 3, 1965. For almost 56 years they shared life together. Mrs. Boyd worked for the Georgia Department of Labor as a secretary and then supervisor. Bernice loved her family, especially the grandchildren. Those, she spoiled but made certain she told them about her Lord. Bernice loved the Lord and lived a life that proved that. She enjoyed working in the yard and traveling. The pool and the beach both made her happy. She liked her house tidy. Her grandchildren said she could spot a speck of dust, in the corner of a dark room, at 40 feet. Bernice loved reading and M&Ms. Bernice Boutwell Boyd will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Mrs. Boyd is survived by her husband, Edwin Claude Boyd, Sr. of Bainbridge; children, Terry Boyd (Lisa) of Climax, Georgia, Eddie Boyd (Teresa) of Bainbridge, Charlie Boyd (Dana) of Brinson, and Susan Boyd Powell (Dennie) of Bainbridge; sister, Mamie Howard of Bainbridge; grandchildren, Judson Boyd, Cody Boyd (Nikki), Dalton Boyd (Raven), Ty Boyd, Hunter Boyd (Maegan), Ginny Boyd, Hunter Howell, Gatlyn Majors, Lauren Majors, Clint Boyd, Tyler Boyd, Levi Boyd, Courtney Powell Sapp, Charlotte Powell Rice (Garrett), Dewayne Powell (Robin), April Powell Hollingsworth (Christian), Jared Powell; and 9 great-grandchildren.
