August 25, 1939 — December 21, 2025

In the arms of her loving family, Betty Sue Hunt Smith, age 86, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2025, at her home in Bainbridge, Georgia. Services for Mrs. Smith will be held Tuesday, December 23, 11:00 am, in the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home. The Rev. Greg Ford will officiate. Roger Smith, McCall Burney, Alex Burney, David Harvey, Charlie Livingston, and Sammy Smith will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 10:00 am.

Betty Sue Hunt was born August 25, 1939, in Bainbridge, Georgia to R.A. Hunt and Jewell Miller Hunt. She grew up in Bainbridge, graduating from Bainbridge High School. She married the love of her life, Robert Earl Smith. They shared 58 years together before his death in 2015. Betty Sue worked in the loan department of Citizens Bank and then went to work in the office of Attorney Harold Lambert. She had a great work ethic and kept things, and Mr. Lambert, in line. She loved to read and hoped to one day publish children’s stories. Betty Sue dearly loved her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.

Betty Sue Hunt Smith is survived by her daughter, Terrie Smith Burney (Troup H. Burney); grandchild, Alex Burney; brother-in-law, C. M. Smith; cousin, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Charles Hunt.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society, 808 Zorn Road, Bainbridge, Georgia 39817.
