Bill Jones

Bill J. Jones, 84, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Mosley officiating and will conclude in the church. Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery with John Simmons, Harold Barber, Jerry Maxwell, Chip Perry, Jack Leverrett, Drane Smith, George Herring, Hal Brannen, John Bridges, Mayo Livingston, Harold Coppinger, Steele Malone, and Ted Mauldin serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bainbridge Rotary Club. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Ivey Funeral Home. Mr. Jones was born March 14, 1929 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Lawton McKinley Jones and Maude Thompson Jones. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1946, and in 1951 received his Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration from Emory University, and attended Emory Law School. Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He retired as President of Park Avenue Bank with 32 years of service in banking. Mr. Jones was the Past Chairman of the Memorial Hospital Foundation, Trustee of the Bainbridge College Foundation, Past Chairman of the Gilbert H. Gragg Library Board, Past Chairman of the Administrative Board for First United Methodist Church, Past President of the Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Bainbridge Rotary Club, Past President of Bainbridge Country Club, and was very involved in the civic activities in Bainbridge. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sue J. Jones of Bainbridge, GA; his son, Bill J. Jones, Jr. of Opelika, AL; his daughter, Linda S. Jones, M.D. of Bainbridge, GA; his brother, J. R. "Dick" Jones and his wife, Connie, of Virginia Beach, VA; and his two grandchildren, Ryan A. Jones of Auburn, AL and Haley S. Lane of Columbus, GA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawton M. Jones, Jr.
