Bobbie B. Bates, 89, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at her residence. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Blalock and Rev. Randy Mosley officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Ivey Funeral Home. Mrs. Bates was born July 27, 1924 in Grady County, GA, the daughter of Robert Lee Brunson and Nannie Mae Coram Brunson. She was retired from Bell South after 40 years of service and from the office of J. Sydney Cochran, M.D. after more than 20 years. Mrs. Bates was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Mary O'Quinn Sunday School Class, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Survivors include her children, Larry Bates of Bainbridge, GA, Harry Bates of Bainbridge, GA, and Carla B. Robinson and her husband, Rodger, of Bainbridge, GA, and her grandson, Curtis Robinson of McDonough, GA. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Krista Robinson; her siblings, Fallen Brunson, Coram Brunson, Vera Donaldson, Burma Simpler, Jewell Busby, Mona Dollar, Hazel Archer, LaVerne Windel, and Margaret James. The family would like to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their care and attention.
