Brenda Scoggins Fauls, 49, of Macomb, IL, formerly of Tallahassee, FL, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009. Services celebrating the life of Dr. Brenda Kaye Fauls will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 North Meridian Road, Tallahassee on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 11:00 am. She was a Professor of Choral Music Education and Conducting at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. She received a Ph.D. in Choral Music Education at Florida State University, specializing in vocal science. She earned a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. While at FSU, Brenda was an associate Conductor of the Tallahassee Community Chorus. She served as music director at First United Methodist Church in Monticello, Florida. Brenda's combined philosophies of music for life and music for all were evident in her teaching and performing. She consistently maintained participation in community music organizations since high school, and endeavored to make music an active part of life for all those whose lives touched hers. Students at Martin Middle School, Tarboro, North Carolina and East Wake High School in Raleigh-Wake County, North Carolina benefitted from Brenda's supportive and nurturing teaching environment. Additionally, while in North Carolina, Brenda served music education through extensive professional leadership. Brenda is survived by her partner, Tom Hunter of Tallahassee, Florida; her parents John and Anne Scoggins of Brookline, New Hampshire; her sisters, Cheryl Rowe of Laurel, Maryland and Donna Wargo of Wellesley, Massachusetts; her brother John Eric Scoggins of Dover, New Hampshire; several nephews and nieces, many friends and colleagues. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Brenda Kaye Fauls Memorial Scholarship at Florida State University.
