William Brian Powell, 35, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Bainbridge Church of God with Pastor Dan Tomberlin officiating. Interment will follow at West Bainbridge Cemetery with Jason Andrews, Pete Arenas, Rodney Close, Stan Killough, Greg McDonald and Chris Bibby serving as active pallbearers. Brian was born October 10, 1973 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of the Larry L. Powell and Brenda Ingram Powell. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1992 and attended The University of Georgia. Brian was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1995 and continued playing professional baseball until retiring in 2005, playing for Houston, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Washington. He owned and operated South Georgia Sports and attended Bainbridge Church of God. Brian was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ray Powell, his maternal grandparents, Spurgeon and Hazel Ingram and his father, Larry, on October 29, 2007. Survivors include his wife, Glee Putnal Powell of Bainbridge, GA; his son, Will Powell of Bainbridge, GA; his daughters, Chloe and Bree Powell, both of Bainbridge, GA; his mother, Brenda Ingram Powell of Bainbridge, GA; his sister, Leah Bibby and her husband Chris of Bainbridge, GA; his paternal grandmother, Jewel Addison Powell of Bainbridge, GA; three nieces; one nephew; his maternal uncle, Charles Ingram; and several paternal aunts and uncles.
