Charles M. Gilson, 81, of Hernando, MS, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, TN. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Brock Cemetery with Rev. Greg Fenn officiating.The family will receive friends at Oak Grove Christian Church Social Hall, Andrew Avery Road, Vada, GA, immediately following the service. He retired from the United States Army after 21 years of honorable service. Within the 21 years of service, he served 2 tours in the Vietnam War.Survivors include his brothers, Bob Gilson and his wife, Sandy, of Obrien, OR, and John Gilson and his wife, Ferrell, of Olympia, WA; a step-daughter, Debbie Holstine of Hernando, MS; a step-son, Roger Willis of Atlanta, GA; 7 step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Bernie Hinzman of WA, and Lavon Brock and his wife, Daphene, of Baconton, GA; and sisters-in-law, Marie Williams and her husband, Frank, of Vada, and Rosa Strickland and her husband, Glenn, of Tallahassee, FL.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Brock Gilson in 2014, formerly of Bainbridge; a sister, Lee Ann Hinzman; and a step-son, Danny Brock.
