Mr. Charles Escal "Rebel" Owens, Sr., age 87, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at his home in Bainbridge, Georgia. Services for Mr. Owens will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 9, at Climax Methodist Church in Climax, Georgia. The Rev. Lynn Hurley will officiate. Louis Owens, Juan Owens, Thomas Owens, Kenny Beemer, Ethan Hussey, and Andrew Cannon will serve as pallbearers. The service will conclude at the church. Mr. Owens will be privately interred in Oak City Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 10:00.
Born in 1938, Charles Escal Owens, Sr. lived a life marked by hard work, deep family devotion, and quiet strength. He served his country proudly as a member of the United States Air Force, beginning with Squadron 3706 in August of 1954. Following his service, he pursued various careers, each reflecting his dedication and drive—from working as a grocery clerk at Jitney Jungle, to spinning records as a radio DJ, and eventually becoming a proud small business owner of Economy Cleaners.
Rebel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his children: Charles Owens, Jr., Sidney Owens, Charlayne Whitaker Williams (Ronnie), Stanli Owens, Melisa Moore (Chris), and Shelley Cannon (Henry). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Marissa Hussey (Merle), Cindy Arnett, Mindy Owens (Brad), Jenna Owens (Kenny), Kaitlynn Walker (Daniel), Charles Owens III (Kaitlyn), Juan Owens, Daniel Owens, Huey Owens, Parker Cannon, Andrew Cannon, and Christopher Moore. Rebel was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Haley, Madison, Austin, Micah, Carson, Samuel, Tripp, Ethan, Jacob, Dean, Ava, Jane Alice, and Clara.
Rebel will be remembered for his steady presence, his commitment to family, and his humble service to others through every chapter of his life. He leaves behind a family bound together by his example and a legacy of hard work, love, and integrity.
