Charlie Cross

Mr. Charlie B Cross, age 88, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. Services for Mr. Cross will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Southwest Baptist Church in Bainbridge, Georgia. The Rev. David Grubbs and the Rev. Dr. Jim Nalls will officiate. Grandchildren of Mr. Cross, Corey Atkinson, Mia Hall, Brandon Gause, Amanda Inlow, Amber Draper, Brittany Sandlin, Jason Park, and Bill Park will serve as pallbearers. Brandy Brock, Jonathan Hall, Samantha Gause, Eric Inlow, Darren Draper, and Jody Park will serve as honorary pallbearers. A private interment, immediate family only, will follow in Brinson Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Charlie B Cross was born August 27, 1924, in Iron City, Georgia, to Dewey V Cross and Mary Lizzy Toole Cross. He married Martha Jean Shattles Cross 58 years ago, on October 1, 1954. Charlie retired from the Decatur County School System after working 37 ½ years in the Building Maintenance Department. Though the school system key rings held hundreds of keys, he recognized which key opened the appropriate door in every school facility in the county. He loved his job with the school system. Mr. Cross was a member of Southwest Baptist Church. Charlie B Cross is remembered as a good man; one who took good care of his family. He was a gifted storyteller; focusing on Decatur County and Brinson as the subjects of many of his tales. He was a passionate gardener and farmer; who loved to share his garden produce. Charlie B was a fisherman. He fished in the most unusual places, like in the bushes. He loved to whistle and sing. It seemed like he never met a stranger. Charlie B Cross, "Paw-Paw" , as he was lovingly called, deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.. Those surviving Charlie B Cross include: children, Diane Atkinson and companion, Dennis Faircloth of Bainbridge, Gail Gause and husband, Wayne of Bainbridge, Sue Sandlin and husband, Kenny of Brinson, Georgia, and Charlie B Cross, Jr. and wife Vickie of Reynoldsville, Georgia; sister, Susie Scott of Bainbridge; grandchildren, Corey Atkinson and girlfriend, Brandy, Mia Hall and husband, Jonathan, Brandon Gause and wife, Samantha, Amanda Inlow and husband, Eric, Amber Draper and husband, Darren , Brittany (Bitt-Bitt) Sandlin, Jason Park, Bill Park and wife, Jody; and great grandchildren, Layton Hall, Jon Michael Cross-Hall, Maloree Inlow, Graham Andrew Draper, and Isabelle Gause.
