Christopher Mitchell

Christopher Arlon Mitchell, 11, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 as the result of an accident.  He was born in Burnswick and lived in Jesup all of his life.  He was a 6th grade student at Martha Puckett Middle School where he played on the soccer team, ran cross country track, and was a member of the BETA Club.  An avid outdoor and sports enthusiast, he played recreation baseball and basketball with plans to begin football in the coming season, and enjoyed hunting with his older brothers.  Christopher had an outgoing personality, infectious smile, and he never met a stranger.  He attended Old Bethel Baptist Church with his family and was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sara L. Smith and grandfather, Samuel Mitchell.Survivors are his parents, Rebecca and Jondavid Smart, Charlie and Holly Mitchell all of Jesup; sisters, Abby Smart, Madison Bryson, Caitlin Smart, Mabry Lammons, and McKenzie Mitchell all of Jesup; brothers, Chase Mitchell and Clay Smart of Jesup; maternal grandparents, Rita and Harold Phelps of Jesup, Walon Smith of Ludowici, and Max and Judy Smart of Jesup; paternal grandparents, Susan Mitchell, and Paul and LIsa Strayer of Jesup; maternal great-grandmother, Sue Smith of Bainbridge; uncles and aunts, Rachel Tyre (Will), Betsy Davis, Aimee Gonzalez (Daniel), Keryl Glenn, Karyn Hardee (Doug), Kelly Hargrove (Michael), Heather Gebhart (Chap), Brant Phelps (Amanda), Luke Strayer (Hali), Dwayne Strayer, and numerous cousins and other relatives.Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 2 at 1 pm at Jesup First Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Ledbetter and Rev. Dale Bange officiating with remarks by Erica Woodard.  Burial will follow in the Old Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-8 pm at Jesup First Baptist Church.Honorary pallbearers will be the faculty and 6th grade class of Martha Puckett Middle School and the school soccer team.Remembrances are suggested to:  Ministry Fund, Old Bethel Baptist Church, P.O.
