Clara Phillips Aultman, 96, a lifelong resident of Decatur County, passed away Sunday, June 3. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Alver Morris Aultman. Clara is survived by her sons: Sidney Morris Aultman and his wife Sharon of Bainbridge, Phillip Merrill Aultman and his wife Terry of Savannah, Georgia, and William Franklin Aultman and his wife Lydia of Hudson, New York. Clara was a loving grandmother to Staci Moore, Ashley Aultman, Amanda Aultman, William Aultman, and Casey Aultman and had the joy of knowing and loving a great-grandson, John Moore. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Clara was born in Bainbridge, on February 16, 1911, to Benjamin Franklin Phillips and Dora Ard Phillips. Her father was co-founder and first preacher of Mt. Zion Church. She was baby sister to six brothers, and was often called "Daughter" by her brothers and father. She married Morris Aultman on July 23, 1937 and moved from the Phillips family farm on Pond Town Rd to the Aultman family farm on Bethel Road, where she raised her three boys. Clara was a Charter Member and the oldest living member of the Mt Zion Church. In addition to her active life as a farm wife and mother, she also worked at the Co. Agents Office, Citizens Bank, Miles Insurance and the Co. Farm Bureau. Clara was a member of the Eastern Star and from 1960-1962 served as President of the Bainbridge Federated Woman's Club. Clara devoted her life to enjoying and caring for her family and friends. She truly loved life, had a wonderful sense of humor and delighted in laughing and visiting with loved ones. She was a wonderful cook, and famous for her delicious pound cakes. Clara made many beautiful quilts, and enjoyed taking trips with her friends and family. She was a true joy and a blessing to all who knew her. She will be missed.
