Clara Howard

Clara Frances Hough Howard, 96, of Athens, GA, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospice House in Athens, GA. The graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Oak City Cemetery with Rev. Paul Medley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mrs. Howard was born February 4, 1916 in Webster Parish, LA, the daughter of Mary Alice Hough and Samuel Muriel Hough, and she grew up in Bethune, SC. In 1943, she married the late Eugene Horace Howard. They moved to Bainbridge in 1953. She worked for many years at The Citizens Bank and Trust Co. and was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the Lydia Sunday School Class. Survivors include her son, Eugene H. Howard, Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Athens, GA; her granddaughters, Cate Howard Davis and her husband, Trey, of Concord, NC, Anne Howard Thompson and her husband, Jim, of Charlotte, NC, and Elizabeth Howard of Athens, GA; her three great-grandchildren, Sam Davis of Concord, NC, Will Davis of Concord, NC, and Caroline Thompson of Charlotte, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
