Clowers J. Godwin, 68, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at his residence. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lem Joiner and Pastor DeWitt Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with James Campbell, Warren Hawthorne, Kenny Jackson, Jeremiah Freeman, Richard Spooner, Kenny Harrison, and Craig Chambless serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deep South Riders and Bainbridge Bikefest. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mr. Godwin was born January 27, 1946 in Climax, GA, to Charlie Clowers Godwin and Essie Mae Ritter Godwin. He was a graduate of Climax High School, Class of 1965, and was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as military police. Mr. Godwin retired as a lineman/troubleman after 43 years from Georgia Power Co. He was a member of Grace Church, the Bainbridge Jaycees, the Deep South Riders, and Bainbridge Bikefest. He was also past president of Bainbridge Bass Club, past president of the Bainbridge Barracudas Swim Team, for which he also drove the bus for swim meets. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Linda Womble Godwin of Bainbridge, GA; his children, Tony Godwin and his wife, Natalie, of Bainbridge, GA and Jennifer Godwin of Oakwood, GA; his siblings, Buford Godwin of Thomasville, GA, William Godwin of Cairo, GA, Johnny Godwin of Thomasville, GA, Gloria Jean Hawthorne of Augusta, GA, and Audrey Hawthorne of Whigham, GA; his grandchildren, Ethan Godwin, Peyton Norris, Shauna Culverson, and Spencer Culverson; his great-grandson, Zane Friday; his faithful canine companions, Jake and Izzy; and his faithful feline companion, Bonnie. Clowers never met a stranger and was never afraid to tell his family and friends he loved them.
