Dola Strickland

Dola Merle Taylor Strickland, 80, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stanley Phillips. Interment will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will be meeting at Cheryl Strickland's home, 302 West 10th Street, Donalsonville, GA 39845. Mrs. Strickland was born September 3, 1929 in Climax, GA, the daughter of James Henry Taylor and Flonnie Griffin Taylor. She was a graduate of Climax High School where she played on the basketball team. Mrs. Strickland was an LPN and worked for Bainbridge State Hospital for over 25 years. Mrs. Strickland was a member of Climax Baptist Church and shared her home, love and care with kids in Climax. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Hill Strickland, Jr.; her daughter, Nancy S. Cross; her brothers, Bill Taylor and Dempsey "Red" Taylor; and her sisters, Alma Faircloth, and Nettie Chester. Survivors include her sons, Ben Hill Strickland, III and his wife Debbie of Attapulgus, GA, Stan Strickland and his wife Jolinda of Headland, AL and Tim Strickland and his wife Kathy of Colquitt, GA; her daughter, Cheryl Strickland of Donalsonville, GA; her brother, Johnny Taylor and his wife Tammy of Donalsonville, GA; her sister, Janette Sapp of Climax, GA; a special friend of the family, Brenda Howell; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
