Donald Harrison, 82, of Whigham, GA, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Corey Mercer, Ricky Harrison, Ronnie Harrison, Bert Nix, Keith Harrison, Brock Merchant, Terry Harrison, Tony Durham, and Bobby Durham serving as active pallbearers.The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Donald Harrison was born March 14, 1934 in Whigham, GA, the son of Robert Leo Harrison and Eva Dare Moore Harrison. He proudly served his country in the United States Army after graduating from high school. He married Johnnie Carolyn Nix in 1957. Donald was an electrician by trade and retired from Engelhard. He was a member of Climax Baptist Church.Donald enjoyed everything outdoors except gnats. You could find him gardening, grafting fruit trees, turkey hunting, or fishing most any time. When he took a break, Donald would ride Abbi on the lawn mower. It is no wonder he loved a practical joke. His infectious laugh was evidence of mischief and pure joy. Family was very important to him and he loved "his Carolyn" more than anything. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Nix Harrison; his sons, Ken Harrison and his wife, Denease, Alan Harrison, and Mark Harrison and his wife, Donna, all of Whigham; his brothers, St. Elmo Harrison, also of Whigham, Buryl Harrison and his wife, Martha, of Climax, and Ronald Harrison and his wife, Rhudeen, also of Climax; his grandchildren, Brandi, Kenzi, Rendi, Courtney, and Corey; his great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Dakota, Eva, Cody, Kyler, McKenna, Jackson, and Avin; and his beloved dog, Abbi. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kermit Harrison.
