Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Collins Murphy, of Cairo, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia. Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, at Eastside Baptist Church in Cairo. Rev. Hal Combs and Rev. Dr. Paul Jones will be officiating. The interment will follow in Gainey Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 P.M. Dorothy Collins was born January 30, 1928 to J. L. and Claudie Davis Collins. She grew up in southern Grady County. She was married to Phillip Newton Murphy; who preceded her in death. After living in Macon and Albany, Dorothy moved back to Cairo. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, Eastside Keenagers, and Eastside Quilters. She loved her church and church family. Mrs. Murphy worked for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph for 38 years. She was a member of the ATT Telephone Pioneers. Dot was a great cook, as well as a devoted wife and mother. Dorothy Murphy is survived by her children: Mike Murphy and wife, Lissa, of Thomasville, Georgia and Terry Murphy and wife, Amie, of Macon, Georgia; grandchildren: Michael Murphy and wife, Kellee, of Atlanta, Georgia, Melanie Knight and husband, Ashley, of Whigham, Georgia, Lee Murphy of Macon, Jordan Murphy of Macon, and Katelyn Sutton of Macon; and great grandchildren: Eli Knight and Ethan Knight, both of Whigham. Dot was preceded in death by her sister, Merle Cox.
