Funeral services for Mr. Edwin "Ed" Wingate, 70, of Eldorendo, GA will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Cox-Ware Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Theresa Taylor officiating. Visitaion will be from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday prior to services. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church at a later date. City of Cairo employees of the utilities division will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Wingate was born November 18, 1937 in Quitman, GA to the now late Jessie James and Winnie Mae O'Sullivan Wingate Glover. He moved to Decatur County from Florida in 1968 and has resided here since. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and was a Sunday School teacher and the Sunday School Superintendent. He worked as a tree trimmer for Davey Tree Service and Asplundh Tree Service, was a truck driver for Bennett Seafood, and for the past eight years was a tree trimmer for the City of Cairo. Mr. Wingate passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at his residence in Eldorendo, GA. He is survived by his wife Norma Jean Smith Wingate of Eldorendo, GA; two daughters, Crystal (Husband Brandon) Howard of Colquitt, GA and Jessica Lynn (Husband Gerard) Roach of Bainbridge, GA; three sons, William Daniel Wingate of Bainbridge, GA, Bobby Ray (Wife Melissa) Wingate of New Port Richey, FL, and Edwin Olin Wingate of Bainbridge, GA; six sisters, Sarah F. Davis of Colquitt, Judy F. Gantt of Lake Seminole, GA, Gladys E. Peterson of Colquitt, GA, Violet M. Taylor of Colquitt, GA, Ruby L Eidson of Brunswick, GA, and Nancy C. Batchelor of Vada, GA; and thirteen grandchildren. Mr. Wingate was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janie Hurley.
