Elbert Harold Barber, 81, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at his residence. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Hatchett and Rev. Greg Ford officiating, and will conclude at the church. Interment will be at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Mike Barber, Ryan Barber, Evan Barber, Bill Lanier, Jerry Jones, and Kenneth Godwin will serve as active pallbearers. The Loyal Soldiers Sunday School Class, Richard Crozier, Bill Crozier, and Harry Crozier will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8195, Bainbridge, GA 39818. Mr. Barber was born July 25, 1933 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Elbert Eli Barber and Elsa Dean White Barber. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1950 and served in the U. S. Navy Reserves. He farmed near Fowlstown, worked for Georgia Gulf Sulfur, and founded Barber Fertilizer Company in 1976. He was one of the founders of SOWEGA Cotton Gin. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Loyal Soldiers Sunday School Class. Harold enjoyed riding in his truck to visit friends and customers and sharing local produce with them. Survivors include his sons, Ronald Barber and his wife, Karan, of Graceville, FL and Donald Barber and his wife, Libby, of Bainbridge, GA; his daughter, Rosalyn Barber of Bainbridge, GA; his sister, Amanda Barber Nolen and her husband, Billy, of Dothan, AL; and his grandchildren, Ryan Barber, Evan Barber, Brian Street, and Katie Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Hildred Rich Barber; his granddaughter, Brittany Barber; and his brother, Wayne Barber.
