Elizabeth Houston Lane, 78, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Grubbs officiating. A private interment will be held at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery near Cuthbert, GA. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mrs. Lane was born April 28, 1935 in Donalsonville, GA, the daughter of Sam Houston and Annie McNair Houston. She was a graduate of Cuthbert High School and Georgia Baptist Medical Center. She received her BSN from Florida State University and Registered Nurse Specialist degree from the University of Florida. She worked for over 52 years as a nurse, nursing administrator, and retired as a Clinical Director for Home Health. She was an American Red Cross nurse, and volunteered with the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and was active in Sunday School and the choir. Her love was serving others. Survivors include her son, Rhodes Childress of Donalsonville, GA; her daughter, Karla Stone and her husband, Rudy, of Leesburg, GA; her sister, Dorothy Casey of Cuthbert, GA; her grandchildren, Rhodes Childress, Jr., Angela C. Nichols, Addison Stone, Tanner Stone, and Grace Stone; and her great-grandson, David Nichols. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Sam Houston, Wallace Rhodes, Edward Houston, Naida Ann Hewitt, and Bobbie Sue Faircloth.
