Betty Pelton, age 78, of Bainbridge passed away Friday, July 20, 2007 at her residence in Bainbridge, GA. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Episcopal Church, 516 E. Mrs. Pelton was born May 15, 1929 in Wilson, NC, to the late Hobart Harvey Thompson and Elizabeth Hubbard Thompson. She lived in Georgia most of her life, and graduated from Moultrie High School in 1946. She attended the University of Georgia and the Central Park School of Art in New York City. She lived in Bainbridge from 1966 until her death. During her career, she was employed as a feature writer for the Fitzgerald Herald, and as a copywriter and traffic manager at radio stations WMGA in Moultrie, WCEH in Hawkinsville, WBHB in Fitzgerald, and WMGR and WJAD in Bainbridge. Mrs. Pelton was an accomplished artist who took joy in all of the arts, and especially in sharing her artistic talents with others. She worked tirelessly for many causes in Bainbridge. Most notably St. John's Episcopal Church where she served in almost every capacity including Senior Warden and President of the Episcopal Church Women. Her other causes included the Bainbridge Planning Commission, the Southwest Georgia Library Board, The American Cancer Society, Bainbridge Little Theater, and the Humane Society. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Mike Pelton of Bainbridge; a son, Dr. Mark Pelton and wife Amelia Rogers Pelton of Milledgeville, GA; three grandchildren, Hampton Pelton, Caldwell Pelton, and Olivia Pelton; and was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Michael Pelton.
