Evelyn Hooks

March 13, 1941 — September 9, 2025

Evelyn Patricia Hooks was taken tenderly and peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 9, 2025, spending her final days at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loved ones. Services for Mrs. Hooks will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 13, 2025, in the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home. The Rev. James Scarborough will officiate. The service will conclude in the chapel. Mrs. Hooks will be privately interred in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 am.

“Patty” was born in Allendale, South Carolina on March 13, 1941. She was the 7th of nine children born to B.C. and Lois Shepard. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She graduated from Tifton High School in Tifton, GA. Ms. Hooks was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Brinson, GA. Among her many hobbies she especially loved fishing, crabbing, sewing, baking, and reading. From a young age she sewed all her own clothing, and later her husband’s suits and her children’s clothing. She made many personalized quilts for family and friends that are now greatly treasured. Patty was an avid and amazing cook. She is especially remembered for her “famous” 15 layer Chocolate Cakes. Patty was a seamstress at Jack Winter Dress Factory for many years. While living in Florida she was a professional seamstress making custom drapes for Lynn’s Interior Design. After moving back to Georgia, she was employed at the Bainbridge State Hospital as a Health Services Technician until her retirement.

Patty is preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, and her husband, George M. Hooks. She is survived include: her sisters, Betty Smith of Wewahitchka, FL and Connie Clarke of Thomasville, GA, brother, Billy Shepard of Ashburn, GA, children, Tammie Pope (Shane) of Brinson, GA and Tony Barbree (El) of Donalsonville, GA; grandchildren, Nathan Gido, Daniel Gido, and Jessie Watkins; stepchildren, Michael Hooks, Christine Sigley, and Josina Hooks; as well as her dearest, closest friend for many years, Joy Cook of Bainbridge, GA. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.
