Rev. Foy Lee Spivey was born near Tallahassee, Florida, on October 2, 1934. The youngest of four siblings, Foy showed a talent early on for singing, blessed with a beautiful tenor voice. At age 16, he made the Florida All State Chorus which included a bus trip to St. Pete. After graduating from Blountstown High School, Foy joined the Air Force and served as Navigator. His love for all things related to airplanes and flying came from these years.
In 1954 he met the love of his life, Peggy Edmunds, in Savannah, Georgia. They were married in December of 1955, and Foy subsequently attended Bob Jones University where he received a degree in Bible. While at school in Greenville, SC, Foy and Peggy had two daughters, Michelle and Janine. Foy was called to preach in a small church in Faceville, Georgia. Son, Jonathan, was born in nearby Bainbridge, and three years later the family became missionaries to Sweden with Gospel Fellowship Association.
Rev. Spivey left Sweden after 11 years and moved to Victoria, BC, Canada. He served for a while as a missionary pilot, flying a twin-engine Cessna to remote parts of Vancouver Island. The Spiveys eventually moved to the mainland and served in a small church close to Vancouver. Peggy’s last years were a struggle, and Foy took loving care of her until she passed in 2019. He continued preaching until the very end, within a week of his own journey heavenward.
Foy is predeceased by his wife, Peggy Edmunds Spivey; mother and father, Grady Belle Kirkland and William Leon Spivey; brothers Gaston Spivey and Garlon Spivey; sister Vermeil McCrone, and son-in-law Alvin Rees. He is survived by children Michelle (Ken Haden) Spivey, Janine Rees, and Jonathan (Yoko) Spivey; grandchildren Michael (Amelia Tan) Rees, Stephen (Valinda) Rees, Foy (Katrya) Rees, Marilyn (Andy) Steckiel, and Sebastian and Olympia Spivey. Great grandchildren include Michelle, Lanaea and Vaelynn Rees; and Annie, Nora and Maisie Steckiel.
Family and friends will gather on March 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, 2939 Bethel Road, Brinson, Georgia for a graveside memorial.
