George Windell Powell, 78, of Decatur County, GA, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016.The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at White's Bridge Cemetery with Greg Calhoun, Will Barber, George Barber, Weston Powell, Richard Calhoun, Tony Greene, Joe McGalliard, and Darren Harrell serving as active pallbearers.The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Ivey Funeral Home. Mr. Powell was born February 14, 1938 in Decatur County, GA, the son of Julian Holmes Powell, Jr. and Inez Wells Powell. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and served in the United States Air Force. Windell retired as the supervisor of house keeping at Memorial Hospital and Manor after 28 years of service.Mr. Powell was a simple man who loved the Lord. He was headstrong at times and a hard worker. He loved his family and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor, especially from his vegetable garden. His favorite fishing spot was on Spring Creek where he made many memories with friends and family. Survivors include his sons, Garrett Powell of Bainbridge, GA and Jule Powell and his wife, Natasha, of Bainbridge, GA; his daughters, Wendy Barber and her husband, Brad, of Moultrie, GA and Marsha Greene and her husband, Mark, of Seminole County, GA; his siblings, Janice Calhoun, Norma Hornsby and Ronnie Powell and his wife, Judy, all of Colquitt, GA; his grandchildren, Tony Greene, Megan Greene, Will Barber, George Barber, Weston Powell, and Taryn Powell; and his two great-grandchildren, Mara Greene and Michael Greene. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lenora "Polly" McGalliard Powell.
