Georgia Fleming

April 24, 1944 — July 12, 2010

Georgia Ivey Fleming went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 12, 2010, while surrounded by her loving family. She courageously fought but lost a battle to a rare and aggressive cancer discovered in early June. Born in Colquitt, Georgia, she moved to Bainbridge at age eight where she became a gymnastics partner with John who would become her loving and devoted husband on March 17, 1963. That union brought her into the Navy community where for 20 years she traveled the world touching legions with her warm personality and an unsurpassed zest for life. Nevertheless, she remained close to her roots in Bainbridge where she will be remembered as a vivacious and talented dancer and majorette, and devoted friend and classmate. Georgia was your Miss Bainbridge of 1962. Georgia was known for her infectious Christian faith and her penchant for evangelism. She was a member of the Chula Vista, CA Presbyterian Church for 34 years where as an Elder she served in many leadership positions. She enjoyed music and was always a member of a choir wherever life took her. The Fleming home was known for Georgia's hospitality and cooking. Want a fellowship or party, call Georgia. She is now enjoying the ultimate Christian celebration. Georgia is survived by her husband, John; sons Brian of Denver, CO and John III and his wife Tara, and grandchildren Leif and Arden of Charlotte, NC. She also leaves behind sisters Betty Jo Boyd of Sylvester, and Sue Parr of Albany, her mother, Elizabeth Ivey of Sylvester, mother-in-law, Mildred Fleming of Bainbridge, and nieces and nephews. Her legacy of accomplishments, love, and devotion to her Lord, family, friends, and church is unsurpassed. A service of witness to the resurrection in celebration and gratitude for her life will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Shotwell St, Bainbridge, GA with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Georgia's memory to the Chula Vista Presbyterian Church Gifts and Memorials, the American Cancer Society, or Camp Sunshine, programs for children with cancer.
