Mrs. Gertie Griffin Barber, age 97, passed away Monday, February 12, 2007 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home in Bainbridge, GA. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Bethany Baptist Church near Brinson, GA with Dr. Paul Worsham, Rev. Roy Matthews, and Rev. Tommy Willis officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with Wesley Barwick, Jesse Powell, Joe Barber, John Hill, Anthony Perkins, and Max Crews serving as active pallbearers. Mrs. Barber was born June 17, 1910 in Decatur County, GA, the daughter of John Franklin Griffin and Tiercy Yates Griffin. She was a retired seamstress from Jack Winter, Inc., a homemaker, and a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Charles Barber, and her son, Charles Barber. Her daughter, Maxie Barber Barwick, joined her in heaven the same day, February 12, 2007. Survivors include 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Ruby Barber of Bainbridge, GA.
