Haywood Martin, 86, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009 at Consulate Health Care in Tallahassee, FL. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Walter Todd, Dr. Carl G. Garnett, Elder Max Childs and Dr. Denton Sumrall officiating. Interment will follow at Prosperity Baptist Church Cemetery with Brent Martin, Austin Sumrall, Wesley Sumrall, Eric Boatright, Christopher Woodall, Dustin Shockley, Clint Humphrey and Phillip Martin serving as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mr. Martin was born July 8, 1922 in Decatur County, GA, the son of Clarence L. Martin and Birma Harrell Martin. He was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and served in the Army Air Force during WWII. Mr. Martin was a member of VFW Post 4904, a volunteer for the Mount Pleasant Fire Department and a member of Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church. He was a production supervisor for an aircraft restoration company and owned and operated Martin's Union 76 and Haywood's Used Cars for twenty-six years in Cairo, Georgia. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Martin of Bainbridge, GA; his son, Bruce Haywood Martin and his wife Kathy of Bainbridge, GA; two daughters, Carol M. Sumrall and her husband Denton of Meridian, MS and Angie M. Slater and her husband Mike of Howey-in-the Hills, FL; his sister, Dorothy Jean Morris of Bainbridge, GA; ten grandchildren, Austin Sumrall, Hope Sumrall Parker, Wesley Sumrall, Tisha Martin, Brent Martin, Nicki Martin Shockley, Eric Boatright, Alison Boatright Humphrey, Christopher Woodall and Amanda Slater Spence; and eleven great-grandchildren.
