Mrs. Helen Smith Hatton Howell, 79, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. David Grubbs and Rev. Everett Foskey officiating. Interment will follow at Thursby Cemetery near Donalsonville, GA with Corky Grubbs, Scott Messer, Bobby Grubbs, Jackie Grubbs, Glen Hatton, and Charlie Miller serving as active pallbearers. Mrs. Howell was born March 3, 1932 in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of Hubert R. Smith and Genevieve Smith. She was a homemaker and member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include her husband, Hugh Dorsey Howell of Bainbridge, GA; her sons, Herman R. Hatton and his wife, Frances, of Brinson, GA, Al Hatton and his wife, Candy, of Crawfordville, FL, Ron Hatton and his wife, Debra, of Bainbridge, GA, and Hugh D. Howell, Jr. of Bainbridge, GA; her daughters, Betty Loyless and her husband, Roger, of Brinson, GA, Inez White of Bowling Green, KY, Donna Maloy and her husband, Chuck, of Climax, GA, and Theresa Ritter and her husband, Danny, of Bainbridge, GA; her 20 grandchildren, her 13 great-grandchildren; and her 1 great-great-grandson. Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her sons, James R. Hatton, Jr. and John R. Hatton; her daughter, Diane Hall; and her granddaughter, Rebecca Lyn Bush.
