The Villages

The Rev. Henry Theodore "Theo" Gee, age 96, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2026, in the Villages, Florida.

He was born in Decatur County, GA, near the town of Amsterdam. He was the eldest child of James L. (Lester) Gee and Lois (Albritton) Gee, longtime residents of the county, and grandson of Henry Augustus (Gus) Gee. In his youth, he also lived in the towns of Climax and Attapulgus, while his father ran a dragline for the Fuller’s earth mines.

Theo joined the Navy at 17, and served aboard the battleship USS Missouri for the Midshipman’s Cruise of 1949, before winning a scholarship to Georgia Tech. He felt a call to the ministry and finished his undergrad degree at Georgia Teacher’s College (now Georgia Southern). He attended the seminary at Emory University, between enjoying Atlanta Crackers baseball games and chili dogs at The Varsity drive-in. He served as associate pastor at South Columbus Methodist Church, where he met and married Louise (Humphries) Gee in 1959. He served churches in Hamilton, GA, (where son Scott was born) and Cordele, before deciding to move to Florida. He served churches in Tallahassee (where son Mark was born in 1963), Tavernier, Key West, West Palm Beach, Chattahoochee, Lake Worth, and Auburndale, before retiring in 1995. He and Louise lived in Tallahassee for ten years during which he was re-called to serve churches in Eastpoint/St. George Island and Climax, GA. They re-retired to The Villages, where he also served as interim pastor at the Wildwood UMC. He enjoyed golf, attending The Villages Georgia Club, and many friends at New Covenant UMC. He lost Louise in 2020, after 60 years of marriage.

Rev. Gee is survived by son Scott (and daughter-in-law Angela) of Mijas, Spain; son Mark of The Villages, FL; grandson Tommy (and wife Sarah) of Buhl, AL; granddaughter Katie (and husband Ian) Peters of Birmingham; and two great-grandchildren; brother Charles Gee (and wife Sandra) of Climax, GA; sister Mickey Folds of Bainbridge, GA; brother Michael Gee of Tallahassee, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
