Herbert Boyd

Herbert L. Boyd, 81, of Brinson, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at his residence. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Taylor and Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Gilead Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Grandsons, James Gilbourn, Chris Boyd, Greg Boyd, Shaun Earnest, Trent Bellflower and Casey Bellflower serving as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mr. Boyd was born October 5, 1927 in Miller County, GA, the son of John Preston Boyd and Emma Lillian Rouse Boyd. He was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1946 and retired with over forty-three years of service as a meter reader with Georgia Power. He was a volunteer with Kendrick Volunteer Fire Department and he was an avid gardener. Mr. Boyd was a member of Mount Gilead Free Will Baptist Church where he loved singing gospel hymns, he served as Deacon, Clerk and Treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent, where he taught Sunday School. Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Eudene Vickers Boyd of Brinson, GA; two sons, Randy Boyd and his wife Diane of Lakeland, FL and Sammy Boyd of Brinson, GA; two daughters, Diane Bellflower and her husband Timmy of Brinson, GA and Brenda Boyd of Seminole County, GA; his sister, Virginia Hatcher of Albany, GA; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
