Herbert A. Olivent, 86, of Greenville, GA, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014 in Greenville, GA. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Mosley officiating, and will conclude in the chapel. Interment will be at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Lamar Barbree, Steve Wacaser, Randy Blocker, Guy Smith, Larry Lane and Edward Reynolds will serve as active pallbearers. Mr. Olivent was born February 14, 1928 in Faceville, GA, the son of Lester Walker Olivent and Agnes Oberta Phillips Olivent. He was a graduate of Faceville High School and following graduation he joined the United States Navy where he became a diver. Upon his discharge he returned to Bainbridge and began his employment with Miller Hydro and later with Englehard Corp. in Attapulgus. Mr. Olivent became a certified welder and pipe fitter and also worked with Atlantic Undersea Testing and Evaluation throughout the Bahamas on the missile range. His final years of employment were with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union where he worked on various union jobs in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and South Carolina. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bainbridge, GA. Survivors include his son, Al Olivent, Jr. and his wife, Vicky, of Manchester, GA; his daughter, Sheila O. Halpern and her husband, Dan, of Tallahassee, FL; his grandchildren, Brooke Clifton, Jennifer Leebern, Ruth Durham, Jenna Halpern, and Max Halpern; and his great-grandchildren, Cole Clifton, Ross Clifton, Levi Durham, Lilly Kate Durham, Davis Durham, Brooks Leebern, Reeves Leebern, and Guy Leebern. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Williams Olivent; and his daughters, Janice Elaine Olivent and Phyllis Olivent Mills.
