Mrs. Hilda Catherine Lewis Godwin, 97, of Athens, GA and formerly of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Friday, October 27, 2007 in Athens. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Edward Bolen officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery. She graduated from West Bainbridge High School and attended the University of Georgia for a Teacher's Certification. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Bainbridge, GA, working for many years with the children of the church, but she will be best remembered as a housewife, a friend, and a mother. Mrs. Godwin was preceded in death by her husband, James Rudolph Godwin, three sisters, Josie Lewis, Grace Martin, and Gladys White, and a grandson, Jimmy Glenn Godwin, Jr. Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Glenn Godwin and wife Mary Ann Pope Godwin of Athens, GA, W. Wayne Godwin and wife Donna Lynn Godwin of Alexandria, VA, and James Rudolph Godwin, Jr. and wife Roxanne Barnes Godwin of Gainesville, FL; six grandchildren, Kathie Robinson, Michelle Couch, Shannon Godwin, James R. Godwin, III, Michael W. Godwin, and Phillip Godwin; eight great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Charles L. Martin of Huntsville, AL and John W. White of Weston, FL.
