Horace Gene Poitevient, 74, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 at Archbold Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Milton Harrison and Rev. Tim Harrell officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with James Pollock, Melton Pollock, Dan West, Tarrell Bennett, Stan Pollock and Gary Welch serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Thursby, Dwain Sellars, Tom Burgess, Nathan Salter, Kenneth Godwin and Kim Whitehead. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Memorial donations may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 2909 Vada Road, Bainbridge, Georgia 39817. Mr. Poitevient was born September 29, 1939 in Pelham, GA, the son of Oscar Poitevient and Mamie Harvey Poitevient. He was a life long farmer and a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Vergie M. Poitevient; his daughters, Rhonda Schiffner and her husband, Jim, of Bainbridge, GA, and Wanda Duncan and her husband, Wayne, of Pelham, GA; his sister, Earnestdean Carr of Camilla, GA; his grandchildren, Angel Webb and her husband, Billy, of Cairo, GA, and Joseph Newsome and his wife Kristy of Brinson, GA; his great grandchildren, Danielle Bradshaw, Kelan Newsome, Justin Webb, and Logan Webb. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Poitevient and Mamie Harvey Poitevient; and his brother, Buddy Poitevient.
