Irene Bridges

Irene Sawyer Bridges, 95, of Brinson, GA, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008 at her residence. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Brinson Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Brinson Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service at Brinson Baptist Church. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mrs. Bridges was born March 19, 1913 in Vada, GA, the daughter of Jimmy Roe Sawyer and Thelma Britton Sawyer. She grew up in Reynoldsville, GA, graduated from Bainbridge High School, and attended Georgia State Women's College in Valdosta, GA. She taught school for several years before she married and was a member of Brinson Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. B. Bridges, and a son, Jimmy Roe Bridges. Survivors include a son, Robert L. Z. Bridges and wife Betty of Bainbridge, GA; a daughter, Hattie I. Bridges of Brinson, GA; five grandchildren, Cindy Powell and husband Hardy of Brinson, GA, Carol Oxford and husband Jim of Greensboro, GA, Scott Blanchard and wife Jenny of Charlotte, NC, Zachary Blanchard of Athens, GA, and Jimmy Blanchard of Boone, NC; and three great-grandchildren, Chase Croley of Brinson, GA, Peyton Greenfield of Billerica, MA, and Emily Blanchard of Charlotte, NC.
