Irene Spooner

Irene Barber Spooner, 78, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010 at her home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stanley Phillips and Rev. Randall Terry officiating. Interment will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery with Zane Allen, Brad Kelley, Blake Kelley, Bobby Barber, James Harvey Stewart and John Timmons serving as active pallbearers. Mrs. Spooner was born October 18, 1931 in Decatur County, GA, the daughter of Bennett Barber and Vada Nichols Barber. She was raised on a farm and worked for several years as a bookkeeper. She retired as a lunch room manager with the Decatur County School System and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of sixty-three years, Jesse Spooner of Bainbridge, GA; two brothers, William Lee Barber of Bainbridge, GA and Nelson Barber of Climax, GA; three sisters, Sara Bellflower, Juanita Talbert and Mildred Sapp, all of Bainbridge, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
