J. Carey Heard, 53, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Friday, November 27, 2009 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2009 at Morningside Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Johns and Rev. Carl Harrell officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery with Chad Widner, Kenny Blair, Brian Jones, Stephen Jones, Newton Cloud, Johnny Johnson, Joe Conyers, Hank Pumphrey and Bobby Culverson serving as active pallbearers. His nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, having earned the Eagle Scout Award and the God and Country Award. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1974, played collegiate football at the University of Georgia, and Florida State University, where he graduated in the Class of 1978. He was a farmer and owner of JCH Contractors, INC. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Julius C. Heard and his sister, Susan Deanne Heard. Survivors include his wife of twenty-nine years, Delores E. Heard of Bainbridge, GA; his daughter, Shannon Heard of Bainbridge, GA; his son, Jace Heard and his wife Brittney of Bainbridge, GA; his mother, Betty Sue Grady Heard of Bainbridge, GA; four brothers, Rodney W. Heard and his wife Lynn, Dale Heard and his wife, Jill, Trent Heard and his wife April and Russell L. Heard all of Bainbridge, GA.
