J. H. "John" Tillis, 75, of Climax, GA, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge, GA. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2010 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Burdick officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Danny Lambert, Dennis Lambert, Wendell Lambert, John S. Tillis, Chad Haywood and Harold Sellars serving as active pallbearers. H. was born October 29, 1934 in Climax, GA, the son of Ralph L. Tillis and Gertrude "Trudie" Lambert Tillis. He was a graduate of Climax High School, Class of 1951. He retired with over 20 years of service from the U. S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for almost 20 years in the catalyst department of Engelhard Corporation. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Tillis of Climax, GA; his son, David L. Tillis of Houston, TX; his daughter, Susan Tillis Hardy of Tallahassee, FL; his sisters, Annie Lee Tillis Johnson and her husband Charles W. of Elberton, GA, and Bonnie Tillis Toole and her husband Elliot of Tallahassee, FL; three grandchildren, Jacob Hardy, Nicholas Tillis, and Ashley Knight-Tillis; and several nieces and nephews.
