Mr. James Aaron Hollis, 69, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008 at his residence. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gerald Little and Rev. Donna Bevels officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mr. Hollis was born July 24, 1939 in Ridgeway, SC, the son of John Palmer Hollis and Effie Mae Joyner Hollis. He graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1958 and joined the South Carolina Air National Guard in 1959. He was activated in 1962 during the Berlin Crisis and assigned to Phalsbourg, France for an eight month active tour. After his military service he was employed by Uniroyal as supervisor in polypropylene yarn manufacturing in Winnsboro, SC. He also was employed by Thermoplastics as supervisor in PVC pipe manufacturing in Pineville, NC. In 1967 he joined Patchogue Plymouth Co. in Hazlehurst, GA as production supervisor. He transferred to Atlanta in 1968 for start up of research and development laboratory and in 1973 transferred to Bainbridge for start up of Bainbridge Mills. After twenty-six years and several management positions, he retired as Color Products Manager in 1993. Mr. Hollis was of the protestant faith. Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Annette Childers Hollis; his daughter, Sharon Rathel and her husband Jeff of Bainbridge, GA; his son, Kenny Hollis and his wife Beth of Bainbridge, GA; two sisters, Mildred Renew and her husband Bob of Ridgeway, SC and Dorthy Riley and her husband Bill of Blythewood, SC; two brothers, Norris Hollis and his wife Beverly of Ridgeway, SC and Jack Hollis and his wife Miriam of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Zachary Burke, Matthew Burke, Ryles Hollis, Cole Rathel and Callie Rathel; and several nieces and nephews.
