Mr. James H. "Jim" Smith, 86, of Bainbridge, GA passed away Friday, October 12, 2007 at his residence. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Morningside Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Van Landingham, Rev. Paul Medley and Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with Chris Smith, Skylar Smith, Spencer Smith, Ty Smith, Sean Slaughter, Derrick Calhoun, John Lee Lynn and Ryals Smith serving as active pallbearers. Mr. Smith was born on January 9, 1921 in Bainbridge, GA to the late Robert Franklin Smith and Mary Knight Smith. He attended Bainbridge High School and was a retired power house operator for RCA Service Co. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and served as Assistant Fire Chief with Southern Airways in Bainbridge, GA. He owned and operated Jim's Oyster Bar for eighteen years, and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Bainbridge, GA. He loved fishing and the Atlanta Braves (when they were winning). He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Delaney Grace Slaughter. Survivors include his wife Ruby Adell Lynn Smith of Bainbridge, GA; five sons, Larry Smith and wife Lynda, Tim Smith and wife Carla, Mitch Smith and wife Julie, and Gene Smith and his fiancé Suzanne Brandt, all of Bainbridge, GA, and Guy Smith and wife Lorenda of Pelham, GA; thirteen grandchildren, Angela Slaughter of Columbus, GA, Chris Smith of Tallahassee, FL, Mary Ellen Calhoun of Valdosta, GA, Caitlyn Swords of Pelham, GA, Spencer Smith, Skylar Smith, Sydney Smith, Ty Smith, Morgan Rogers, Ryals Smith, Searcy Smith, Emma Kate Smith, and Mitchell Smith, all of Bainbridge, GA; and three great-grandchildren, Hays Slaughter and Ben Slaughter of Columbus, GA and Folton Calhoun of Valdosta, GA.
