Mrs. Jane Harrell Lambert, 92, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Monday, December 3, 2007 at her residence. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Al Reese, Dr. Danny Shepard, and Rev. Paul Medley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with John Lambert Edwards, Chester A. Curnane, III, Lt. Col. Shane Lambert, Warren W. Plowden, Jr., Tom Conger, Wayne Lambert, Jr., Gene Miller, and Gerard Kwilecki, III serving as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at her residence, 2004 Douglas Drive, Bainbridge, GA. Mrs. Lambert was born July 30, 1915 in Decatur County, GA to the now late Charles and Olive Womack Harrell. She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1932 and attended Duke University and the University of Florida. She graduated from the University of Georgia and received her Library Science Certificate from Florida State University. During World War II, she served in the American Red Cross as the Recreational Activities Director for wounded veterans at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bethesda, MD. She taught school in Brinson, GA, Dalton, GA, Climax, GA, and served her last 12 years teaching English and History at Bainbridge High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years, her last 25 years with the Lydia Sunday School Class. She actively supported the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board, was vice-president of the Women's Missionary Union of Georgia, was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, past chairperson of the Decatur-Seminole Regional Library, past chairperson of the Decatur County - Gilbert H. Gragg Library, past president of The Book Club, past president of the Bainbridge Chapter of the American Association of University Women, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Troop Leader. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Harold Lambert of Bainbridge, GA; her son, John C. (Jack) Edwards of Ball Ground, GA; her sister, Anne Harrell Curnane of Belleville, IL; three grandchildren, Ellen Council Edwards, John Lambert Edwards, and Margaret Edwards Philpot; two great-grandchildren, Carter Philpot and Lila Grace Philpot; and her devoted housekeeper, Ruby Eidson.
