Jeanne Pollard

July 10, 1943 — January 27, 2024

Ethel Eugenia “Jeanne” Pollard, age 80, died after a brief illness on January 27, 2024, in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Jeanne was born to Elga Dot Hatcher and Joshua Heard Poole, Jr. on July 10, 1943, in Mobile, Alabama where she grew up and attended Murphy High School, graduating in 1962. A few years later, she married William Henry Pollard, Jr., a union which lasted 52 years, until Bill’s death in 2017. Bill’s career took them to Atlanta, where they had two daughters. In 1975, they moved to Albany, Georgia where they resided until Bill’s death. Jeanne then moved to Quincy, Florida to be near her daughter, Karen. In 2022, she moved to Altamonte Springs to be near her other daughter, Donna. Jeanne’s greatest joy was being a mother to her two daughters, Donna Shore (Marc) and Karen May (Joe) . She also loved being “Nannie” and “Nay Nay” to her grandchildren: David Shore, Brittany Shore, Josie May and Perry May, and great-grandchildren David Shore, Jr. and Peyton Shore. She was a homemaker for many years and also volunteered for several community organizations, as well as doing a great deal of work for her church. If the church needed her, she always said, “Yes”, especially for chaperoning youth trips. When she returned to full-time work, she enjoyed working at Gayfers/Dillards as a personal shopper for many years. Her work friends there were like family. After leaving retail work, she worked at Phoebe Putney Hospital at the front desk. She was in her element greeting people with her beautiful smile, and her bubbly personality. During all her volunteer and work days, she always made time to be a poll worker, and then eventually a poll manager for Dougherty County Elections. She loved doing this job and was always very dedicated to anything she was a part of in her community. Jeanne was predeceased by her parents and by her husband, William Henry “Bill” Pollard, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Lovey (her dog), her sister-in-law, Emily Hammond, niece, Lisa Covington, and nephew, Mike Hammond. A celebration of her life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Quincy, Florida on February 17, 2024. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. in the church fellowship hall, with services beginning at 11:00 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, Quincy, Florida, 306, North Madison Street, Quincy Florida 32351 or to footprintsoftheson.org , a nonprofit organization transforming the lives of children with disabilities in Haiti.
