Mrs. Jessie Walls Cordell-Miller, age 98, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014, at her home in Cairo, Georgia. Services for Mrs. Cordell-Miller will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church in Iron City, Georgia. Dr. Gwenn Hayes and Rev. Miles Carter will officiate. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery. Spence Touchton, Bill Cooper, David Spooner, Steve Walden, Dewayne Horne, and Troy Bush will serve as pallbearers. Raiford Crawford, Don Swanner, Billy Creel, and Horace Baggett will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. "Miss" Jessie was born March 9, 1916 in Houston County, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie J. Walls and Eva Hatton Walls. She was married first to the late Alva J. Cordell of Iron City, Georgia and, later, to the late Bob Miller. She was a charter member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a member of the Merle Bell Sunday School Class. A hard worker, she retired from Ithaca at age 80 and was co-owner of Miller Funeral Home in Cairo. "Miss" Jessie was a Christian woman of great faith and strength; who took pride in caring for her family and friends. She welcomed everyone to her table and you never left her home hungry or empty-handed. Jessie W. Cordell-Miller is survived by her granddaughters, Christa Strickland and husband, Michael of Whigham, Georgia, and Mary "Pebe" Touchton and husband, Spence of Donalsonville, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Jessica Courson of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Haley Love, and Kaden Touchton, both of Donalsonville; a great-great-granddaughter, Ava, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Albert Cordell, great-grandson, Jared Courson, and brothers, Nelson, Harold, and Lonnie Walls. The family wants to thank Felecia Meriweather for the gentle loving care she gave "Grandma" Jessie and the help and support she provided Michael and Christa in order for her to remain in her home. The family also wants to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice and Gentiva Home Health, especially Angie Clark and Angela Jackson, for the loving care and support they provided her over the last year.
