Jimmy Mcconnell

Jimmy J. McConnell, 64, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at his residence. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at Morningside Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Tomberlin, Rev. Lindsay Gay and Rev. Warren Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Ivey Funeral Home. Mr. McConnell was born April 16, 1946 in Mitchell County, GA, the son of Jim McConnell and Lois Beauty Glass McConnell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. His first tour of duty was as a helicopter door gunner and his second tour as a crew chief. He retired from Georgia Power with 37 years of service and was also a general contractor. Mr. McConnell was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1965 and a member of Morningside Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Wonde Griffin McConnell of Bainbridge, GA; his daughters, Jennifer Cox and her husband Bill of Richmond Hill, GA, Becky Strickland and her husband Stacey of Bainbridge, GA, and Rachel Willis of Bainbridge, GA; his brothers, Eugene McConnell and his wife Debra of Bainbridge, GA, Don McConnell and his wife Paula of Bainbridge, GA, James Edward West and his wife Cindy of Las Vegas, NV, Walter West and his wife Rhonda of Bainbridge, GA, Darrell West and his wife Michelle of Bainbridge, GA, Wendall West and his wife Pam of Bainbridge, GA, Kenneth West and his wife Tracy of Bainbridge, GA, Robert West of Albany, GA, Roger Dale West and his wife Michelle of Jacksonville, FL, and Richard McConnell of Bainbridge, GA; his sisters, JoAnn Whittaker and her husband Virgil of Las Vegas, NV, Annette Williamson and her husband Riley of Bainbridge, GA, Linda Sanders of Las Vegas, NV, Debra Kaye Chochoa of Lake Geneva, WI, Frances Gay and her husband Lindsay of Bainbridge, GA, and Judy Powell and her husband Gene of Bainbridge, GA; his grandchildren, Caroline Cox, Veronica Cox, Bridgett Cox, Will Cox, Lauren Strickland, Conner Strickland, Ralyn Willis, Elizabeth Willis, and Sarah Grace Willis; and many nieces and nephews.
