J. L. Humphrey, Jr., 85, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Bainbridge Health Care. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Long and Rev. Chuck Sayers officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens with John Pickern, Leonard Pierce, Steve Amerison, Roland Herbert, Buddy Davis, and Tommy Lashley serving as active pallbearers. Mr. Humphrey was born December 11, 1922 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of John Leonard Humphrey, Sr. and Lillie Lashley Humphrey. He was a mechanic and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was an avid golfer, a member of The Pines Golf Course and a former member of New Fountainhead Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Esther Knight Humphrey of Bainbridge, GA; two daughters, Linda and her husband Norman Sherrer of Bainbridge, GA and Judy and her husband Nick Rogers of Lecanto, FL; his niece, Vorice Barr of Bainbridge, GA; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
